Typographical

This website uses Vollkorn for headings, designed by Friedrich Althausen and provided as a profound public good. We were first directed to this font from Robin Sloan’s website, which is well worth a deep dive. We use Georgia, a simple Sans Serif, for paragraph text given easier readability.

Technical

This website was built using Squarespace, Canva Pro for logos and graphics, and Google Business for domain hosting and site traffic analytics. For hardware, we used a 2023 MacBook Air, a Moleskine notebook, Unipoint Ballpoint Pens, and lots and lots of dark roast coffee made in a Chemex.

Thank You

Things are rarely built in a vacuum. We take our inspiration from others, and build on what others have taught us, making it our own. There are a few specific people of note: (1) Robin Sloan, who blends beautiful writing with a joy for the technical (2) Craig Mod, who elevated the mundane and explores place and purpose (3) The founding team of Welovedc.com for building something a decade ago that still resonates today

Style Guide

There are a couple of stylistic preferences, inspired by Robin Sloan’s Style Guide.

  • We use Oxford commas

  • All books/movies/magazine titles are italicized

  • “DC” in Washington DC does not have periods with the exception of our logo.

  • Washington and Washington DC are interchangeable. When referencing the state of Washington we will refer to it as Washington State.

  • All links to external sources should open in a new tab!
